”Balloons Over Niagara” A Bicentennial Event
Presented by Niagara County Community College
Hot-air balloons will be aloft when Niagara County Community College hosts “Balloons Over Niagara” on its Sanborn campus in conjunction with the Town of Cambria’s bicentennial celebration July 25-27.
This free and open to the public event will feature over 20 hot-air balloons with a balloonist offering rides for $250. Rides are available at 6 p.m. July 25, 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. July 26, and 7 a.m. July 27.
The community is invited to see a balloon glow at 9 p.m. on July 25.

In addition to the balloons, NCCC will be hosting a 5K run around campus and a community barbeque with live entertainment from 5 to 9 p.m. on July 25.

On July 26-27, NCCC will be the site of food vendors, a community fair, ropes course, cultural events and much more beginning at 10 a.m.

24th Annual WNY High School Chalk Walk Competition
Presented by the Lewiston Council on the Arts


Our chalk walk is based on I Madonnari (street painters), an Italian tradition of street paintingthat dates back to the 18th century, and will be held during the 42nd anual Lewiston Art Festival. The competition will be held on a closed to traffic street. This years theme is "200 Years of Diversity".

Historic Lewiston Jazz Festival - Presented by the Lower River Region Chamber

The Historic Lewiston Jazz Festival enters its seventh year on August 22, 23, and 24, 2008. Glenwood Cemetery Association's 145th Anniversary Celebration 
Presented by the Glenwood Cemetery Association


Glenwood Cemetery is the fianl resting place to many prominent figures who played important roles in shaping our history and daily lives today, from Governor Washington Hunt, philanthropist businessman William Kenan Jr. and volleyball inventor William Morgan.
The "Step Back In Time" re-enactors from the Niagara county History Center will portray some of these citizens dressed in period attire. Refreshments and horse drawn wagon rides will also be available.

Niagara County Bicentennial Commemorative Newspaper
Presented by the Metro Retailer, a division of Metro Group, Inc.


For more than half a century the Retailer has been an integral part of the communities throughout Niagara County. The Metro Group is proud to produce and distribute a free souvenir edition commemorating Niagara County’s Bicentennial as a thank you to the residents and businesses with whom we’ve developed relationships. Inserted into various editions of the Retailer at the end of the bicentennial season this free piece promises stories from the county’s past. These stories and accompanying photos will be gathered from local historians, area historical societies, chambers of commerce, long-standing advertisers (photos of a company’s first store, etc.) and from county residents sharing their stories with the Metro Group Editorial Department.
